Volunteers are an integral part of Opportunity International Australia and we are thankful to every person who donates their time, skills and expertise to support us and help people out of poverty. The following volunteer positions are now available:

 
 

Administration Assistant 

Opportunity International Australia is seeking generous supporters to join its Head Office administration support team in Sydney's CBD.

Opportunity International Australia values its volunteers and the contributions they make to the organisation very highly. In almost all regards they are treated in exactly the same manner as the paid employees. As such, if you are considering applying for a volunteer position with Opportunity International Australia, please think very carefully about the commitment in time and energy that will be expected of you. A minimum commitment of one day per week is required.

We seek enthusiastic and outgoing people to be responsible for:

-    Management of incoming and outgoing mail
-    Reception, filing and general administrative tasks
-    Maintenance of office supplies, stationary, equipment, etc.
-    Providing administrative support for travel and events
-    Research and database entry
-    Assisting with a variety of ad hoc projects

You will be a pro-active, confident person with strong administrative, organisational and communication skills, meticulous in your attention to detail with a 'can-do’ attitude. You will have good time management skills and be flexible in a fast paced and changing environment.

While previous experience is not required, you must be computer literate in Word and Outlook with a minimum typing speed of 35 wpm. Proficiency in Excel is also desirable.

Human Resources Projects Assistant Volunteer

Opportunity International Australia is a non-profit organisation that uses a business approach to solve the problem of poverty. Rather than a hand-out, we provide people living in poverty with a small loan (microfinance) to help them start or grow their own small business. Opportunity International Australia currently focuses its work in three countries – India, Indonesia and the Philippines, serving close to 1.4 million people with microfinance and community development programs.

Opportunity International Australia is looking for a volunteer to join our head office in Sydney’s CBD. We seek an enthusiastic and outgoing person to assist with our human resources function and can commit to working with us at least three days per week for a minimum period of 3 months. The position is currently available for an immediate start.

Your responsibilities will include:
-    Designing and implementing a skills and training & development program
-    Coordinating the performance appraisal and goal setting process
-    Reviewing our overseas travel risk policy
-    Designing and implementing an Occupational Health & Safety framework
-    Reviewing and refreshing our employment contract templates
-    Assisting with the update and relaunch of our Employee Handbook
-    Other ad hoc projects as required


Experience and skills:
-   Completion of studies in the HR field is preferable

-    Previous experience working in a HR role is essential, either in a specialist HR role or in a managerial role where you demonstrated capability in the responsibilities noted above
-    Initiative, and the ability to work independently
-    Good time management skills; be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously with the ability to prioritise and work efficiently
-    Excellent organisational and administrative abilities with attention to detail
-    A willingness to learn and be flexible and to assist with ad hoc projects as required in a fast paced and changing environment
-    Pro-active with a 'can-do’ attitude
-    Experience writing policies and processes
-    Advanced MS Office skills, with particular emphasis on Word

DRP Volunteer

Opportunity International Australia is seeking a volunteer to write our IT Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP). This position is to be based in our Head Office in Sydney's CBD, and will work with the internal IT staff and external infrastructure support team.

An initial risk assessment has already been undertaken and a DRP template created. We are seeking an enthusiastic, technically minded, skilled person to complete the plan. This will involve liaising with internal and external stakeholders and understanding how IT operates at Opportunity Australia.

We are looking for a pro-active, hardworking person with exposure to IT management, and a technical background. You will also possess organisational and communication skills, meticulous in your attention to detail with a 'can-do’ attitude. You will have good time management skills and be flexible in a fast paced and changing environment.

We anticipate the project will be around 5 days of work over a 4 week period, and we are looking for someone who is willing to commit to seeing this project completed.
